Haslemere Hog

Posted on May 26, 2017

A year ago I was asked to be one of the artists painting a fibreglass hog to be one of 60 displayed in the Haslemere area, a small market town in the corner of Surrey.  My hog was sponsored by Graduate Landscapes so I chose to paint local wild life which I labeled in English and Latin (the language of gardeners) to create a colourful and informative pig enhanced by a  banner proclaiming the Haslemere motto Vita Musis Gratior – Life is better throught the Arts.  I named my hog HOGweed – slightly tongue in cheek as hogweed is not a friend of landscape gardeners!  At the end of July the hogs were sold off with the proceeds going to the Mayor of Haslemere’s Charities.  Mine went into the auction and I was delighted that is raised the largest sum for a non charity sponsored hog.  It has gone to a lovely home locally.
